Ryan Underwood, President of APEX Government Relations is a fourth-generation lobbyist, whose expertise and lineage bring a nuanced understanding of Kentucky’s rich political landscape. With a legacy rooted in advocacy, Underwood’s approach blends traditional strategies with innovative tactics to navigate the complexities of policy-making.

Ryan's Story

Underwood graduated from Trinity High School and received his Bachelor of Science from Murray State University (MSU). He is also a proud alumnus of Leadership Kentucky's Class of 2021. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA).

Underwood’s career is marked by significant legislative victories across a range of industries. He secured vital road funding for one of the fastest-growing counties in the commonwealth and fortified franchise laws within the automotive sector. His instrumental role in modernizing Kentucky’s vehicle titling and registration systems set new standards for efficiency and transparency. Additionally, Underwood championed tax modernization initiatives for wholesale distribution industries.

 

A relentless advocate for small businesses and industries, Underwood has successfully shielded them from potentially harmful tax and regulation legislation. His unwavering dedication to promoting and protecting the interests of his clients and the broader Kentucky business community underscores his reputation as a formidable force in the world of government affairs.

 

Underwood's background includes campaigning for Anne Northup and Ernie Fletcher during high school and college, respectively. He served as a leader in MSU College Republicans and worked extensively in transportation, freight, and commodities brokerage. Specializing in transportation, licensing and occupation, and economic development, he brings a wealth of experience to his role. Beyond his professional endeavors, Underwood enjoys traveling. He spent time in Australia working in the agriculture industry, further broadening his perspective and expertise.
